Episode 8: About desire, with Elissa

This may prove to be one of the most nerve-wracking episodes to record ever. That’s for two reasons: 1) I make a full declaration of why I identify as polyamorous and 2) I recorded it live with my Speak Your Truth Membership Community (which I’ll be doing for all future solo episodes!).

August’s theme is Desire. In the episode I start by sharing the ancient Vedic perspective that true desire is not created by our ego, but rather sent by universal consciousness in order to direct us where we’re meant to go. I also share how this understanding of desire led me to the decision to practice non-monogamy in my romantic relationships. Making the choice to identify as poly has been life-changing for me. It’s allowed me to step beyond the assumed social constructs of how a relationship “should” go and follow my true desires. If all this sounds wacky or confronting or terribly taboo to you… well then I invite you to listen and see what you think!

Show notes:

Here’s a good article explaining the Vedas.

If you want to learn Vedic Meditation, there is unfortunately no central website to search for teachers in your area. However, to learn online I highly recommend my friend Emily Fletcher, who was my first meditation teacher and has since developed her own method, the Ziva Technique. Check out Emily’s online course here and read Emily’s best-selling book, “Stress Less, Accomplish More” here. (Please note these are affiliate links).

Here’s the book Sex at Dawn about "how we mate, why we stay, and what it means for modern relationships.”

Two other books I recommend if you're interested in learning more about polyamory: The Ethical Slut and Opening Up

The video I mentioned about the History of Dating, created by the School of Life.
